Its endemic flora and fauna attract foreign and local researchers, especially the Americans who created the Research Centre VALBIO. In the afternoon, driving to Fianarantsoa. Capital of Betsileo and connecting city between the South and the Highlands. Arrival and visit to the city. Overnight at the hotel in BB Day 5Fianarantsoa – Ambalavao – Ranohira After breakfast, heading to Ranohira. On the way, visit to winel cellars and tasting the Malagasy wines. Continuation to Ambalavao at the discovery of the creation of “AVOHA” bark and decoratd with natural flowers. Ambalavao is also known for the famous “Zebus Market” that takes place every Wednesday. Continuation and visit to the ANJAHA Reserve which gives the opportunity to make acquaintance with a numoerous colony of Makis, approximately 80 elements divided into several famillies and to find the reptiles represented by chamaleons. Overnight at the hotel in BB Day 6Ranohira / Parc national de l’Isalo Day dedicated to the discovery of the ruiniform massif of Isalo, with its impressive sandstone reliefs and formations dating back to the Jurasic period.Climbing through the canyons we come across the “lemurs fulvus rufus”, some desert plants such as the” Pachipodium rosolatum” or Dwarf Baobab measuring 50 to 60 cm adorned with nice yellow flowers.Possibility to hike to the Natural Swimmingpool formed by a small stream that flows among the leafy pandanus trees and other aquatic plants. Day 3Antsirabe – Betafo – Antsirabe After the breakfast at the hotel, you will go to Betafo, situated at a 40 minutes’s drive from Antsirabe for a trek to encounter the farmers of the highlands as well as the cultural, the wildlife and the floristic biodiversities of the area. This walk will get you through the ricefields. Along the way, you can visit the houses, which is an opportunity to see the structure and the layout of a typical Malagasy house. We will see here and there traditional tombs. Picnic during the visit. Then, going down to Betafo to visit this town which is the former administrative capitale of Vakinankaratra, with its houses constructed with wrought iron balcons. On the way back to Antsirabe, a stop at Talata where you will have the opportunity to visit a workshop of traditional silk weaving and other fields for subsistence crops.Royal Palace. BB Day 4Antsirabe – Fianarantsoa After breakfast, you will continue the trip towards Ambositra, situated at 90 kilometres southward from Antsirabe.Ambositra is the capital of Malagasy craft industry. Here you will have the opportunity to discover the works of the Zafimaniry, an ethnic group living in that area and whose members are skillful woodcarvers. You will visit some workshops of sculpture and marquetry. Then you will continue the journey towards Fianarantsoa, the “Town where people learn what is good”.Arrival in the afternoon.Zomatel. BB. Day 5Fianarantsoa – Manakara (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) You will take breakfast very early in the morning to be on time at the railway station of Fianarantsoa.The departure of the train is scheduled at 7. You will be in the first-class compartments for more comfort and go for a day full of adventure.This train links the town of Fianarantsoa with the southeast area of the country where the last railway station is located at Manakara. Overnight in BB Day 6Mananjary – canal des Pangalanes You will leave the pier at 7 and start the cruise over the Canal des Pangalanes. Continuation by the crossing of the extraordinary Bay of Andragnazavaka with its immense man-made lake which stretches as far as the eyes can see. A stop at Ambohitsara (“The beautiful village”), the last village set in the north of the east coast by the Antambahoaka ethnic group. Visit of the enigmatic “Vato Sarilambo” (“White Elephant”) which tells the very origin of this ethnic group, and a factory of “betsabetsa” (the local mead). Then you will have a meal (composed of fresh products bought during the crossing, mainly composed of seafood, etc.). Arrival in bivouac at Ambohimahatsinjo (“where the whole horizon can be seen”). This place is chosen for the camping because it overhangs the Canal and it helps you enjoy the view of the comings and goings of the motorized traditional boats and other rowing canoes used by the fishermen who hasten to get back home before the nightfall. Dinner in the countryside and campfire at the end of the evening, cheered up with traditional songs and dances by the young people of the village. Overnight in FB in tend. Day 7Canal des Pangalanes Peaceful navigation after the busy journey the day before. First stop at Nosy Varika (“the Isle of Lemurs”). As this place had become a large town, the lemurs had to leave the place where they used to live and let the humans settle over. We will go to the town only to buy fresh food at the market for our midday meal. Then we will get back to the boat for a breathtaking crossing over the great Lake of Analampotsy which will last for 45 minutes. We will rely on the skills and the good sense of direction of our courageous pilot to get through the next course of the Canal. In fact, many boats have gone around and around in this site as they have lost their sense of direction. After going across the village, the Canal changes its course and rush between high sand slopes bordered with forests of niaoulis. We will have lunch on board before arriving at Masomeloka (“sidelong eyes”), a small charming village nestling under coconut trees. We will discover the traditions, the ways and customs of the villagers. Then we will go to the camping site set at Asohihy, between the sea and the Canal of Pangalanes.Free time in the afternoon. Overnight in FB in camping Day 8Canal des Pangalanes – Mahanoro – Vatomandry Today is the last day of the cruise. First stop at Ampanalana: visit of the village. We can talk with a shopkeeper who owns a typical shop in that area, where we can find almost everything, which makes things fine. Then we will have a stop at Ambodiharina, a small town which is quite bustling because of the commercial activities of the Canal. We will have lunch either on board or according to your rhythm, on the fine sand by the embouchure of the River of Mangoro. After lunch, we will cross this immense embouchure. We will have a last stop to visit a spice plantation. Vanilla, cloves and cinnamon will make your memories fragrant and rich in colours and emotions. Arrival at Mahanoro at about 4 in the afternoon. Then we will drive onto Vatomandry. Overnight in BB Day 8Vatomandry – Andasibe After breakfast, you will continue the journey to Andasibe. The national road is going across the area around the east forests, small villages and ricefields. A stop at Marozevo to visit the private Reserve of Peyreiras.Arrival at Andasibe at the end of the morning. Overnight in BB Day 9Andasibe Breakfast at the hotel. Overnight in BB your hotel Day 4Andasibe – Brickaville – Descent of Rianila and Rasoabe lake Departure from the hotel at 08.00 am, after the early breakfast, departure for Brickaville where you will embark for the descent of the Rianila river. Stopover of the boat at Satakoly, a typical betsimisaraka village with its stilts huts, visit of a craft factory of « betsabetsa », the local mead. During the navigation, meeting with the different boats, transport of passengers and goods which cross this part of the river which leads to the Pangalanes canal. Picnic lunch. Before crossing the village of Ambila by the « river avenue », stop at a niaouli oil distillery. Overnight in BB Day 5Majunga After breakfast, your guide will join you and you will head for the caves of Anjohibe on board an all-terrain vehicle. While travelling on the road, you will have a stop at a small spot where there is a natural Jacuzzi in which you can have a swim.Then you will continue the journey to the caves. On your arrival, you will have the opportunity to discover the Sifaka, a lemur species.
